Overview

The Jhule – Dhaap Taal – Sundarijal hiking route is one of the most refreshing and nature-focused day hikes around Kathmandu. This trail lies inside the peaceful Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, offering a perfect combination of forest walking, serene water views, and natural beauty.

The journey begins with a short drive from Kathmandu to Jhule, a quiet hillside starting point. From here, the trail gently enters dense forest areas filled with pine, rhododendron, and diverse wildlife. The peaceful environment, chirping birds, and cool mountain air make this section of the hike extremely relaxing.

As you continue, the trail leads to the beautiful Dhaap Taal, an artificial yet scenic lake surrounded by green hills. This is one of the main highlights of the hike, offering a perfect spot to rest, take photos, and enjoy the calm atmosphere. The lake also plays an important role in water conservation for the Kathmandu Valley.

After spending some time at Dhaap Taal, the trail gradually descends through forested paths toward Sundarijal. This section includes gentle downhill walking and occasional stone steps, leading you to the popular gateway of Shivapuri National Park. Sundarijal is famous for its waterfalls, fresh water sources, and natural surroundings.

The hike concludes with a short drive back to Kathmandu, leaving you refreshed and connected with nature after a peaceful day in the hills.
