Overview

This is a one-day moderate hike starting from Matatirtha, a serene area in the outskirts of Kathmandu, and ending at Chandragiri Hill (2475m). The trail offers a mix of nature, culture, and spiritual experiences. Hikers walk through Kathmandu countryside towns, rural hill villages, and local markets, getting a close look at traditional village life and terraced farmland.

Along the way, the trek passes Mata Tirta Temple and Bhaleswor Hindu Temple, providing a spiritual and cultural experience. The trail also goes through protected forests and pristine natural landscapes, offering a peaceful escape from the city. At the top of Chandragiri, hikers are rewarded with sweeping views of Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayan mountains, making it a perfect spot for photography and relaxation.

For those who prefer a less strenuous return, there is an optional cable car ride back to Kathmandu, making this trek suitable for both moderate hikers and casual visitors.

Route

Morning

  • Start early from Kathmandu and drive to Matatirtha.
  • Begin hiking through Kathmandu countryside towns and rural hill villages, passing local bazaars.
  • Stop at Mata Tirta Temple to enjoy the spiritual site and local surroundings.

Midday

  • Continue trekking through terraced farmland and protected forests.
  • Pass through Bhaleswor Hindu Temple, another sacred site, and take a short rest.
  • Enjoy pristine nature and scenic views along the trail.

Afternoon/Evening

  • Reach Chandragiri Hilltop (2475m) and enjoy panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley and the Himalayas.
  • Spend some time at the top for photography and relaxation.
  • Return to Kathmandu either by hiking down or via the optional cable car ride.
  • Arrive back in Kathmandu by late afternoon.
