The Budanilkantha to Shivapuri Danda hike is a scenic and culturally rich one-day trek located on the outskirts of Kathmandu Valley. Starting from the sacred Budanilkantha Vishnu Temple, the trail winds through lush forests, terraced farmlands, and outskirt hill villages, offering an immersive experience of local Tamang village life. Along the way, trekkers can visit the Nagi Buddhist Monastery, enjoy serene forest paths inside Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park, and reach Shivapuri Danda (ridge) for panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley and Himalayan foothills.

This moderate trail is suitable for beginners and casual hikers, making it an ideal half-day to full-day adventure that combines nature, culture, and city views. Hikers will experience pristine nature, forest streams, wildlife spotting, and a peaceful escape from the urban bustle of Kathmandu.

Morning: Budanilkantha to Shivapuri Danda

  • Depart early from Kathmandu (~6:30–7:00 AM) and start the hike at Budanilkantha Temple.
  • Trek uphill through terraced farmlands and quiet forest paths.
  • Pass outskirt hill villages, interacting with local Tamang communities.
  • Stop at Nagi Buddhist Monastery for photography and cultural exploration.

Midday: Shivapuri Danda

  • Arrive at Shivapuri Danda (ridge).
  • Enjoy panoramic views of Kathmandu Valley, the Himalayan foothills, and nearby forests.
  • Optional snack or picnic while taking in the scenery.

Afternoon: Descent to Kathmandu

  • Descend via forest trails back towards Budanilkantha or Sundarijal.
  • Experience forest streams, small shrines, and peaceful natural spots along the way.
  • Return to Kathmandu city by 2:30–3:30 PM, completing the circular route.
